Program: Core SKILLZ (7 to 9 yrs.)
Skill: Static Arm Exercise
Drill: Push-up holds
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor

Description: The students will build arm strength by holding their body up with their palms and balls of their feet.

Steps:

  • Have your students lay on their bellies with their palms on the ground at their side, right below their shoulders.
  • Explain the rules:
    • When I say, “go” you will raise your body off the ground using your palms and the balls of your feet, keeping your feet, hips, and head aligned.
    • Keep your feet together and make sure your fingers are pointed forwards.
    • You will hold the push-up position and count to fifteen.
    • While you are counting, try not to move your body at all.
  • Continue for two turns.
  • On the second turn, walk around and make sure they are maintaining alignment with their feet, hips, and head. If they are not, freeze the count until they correct their position.  


Program: Core SKILLZ (7 to 9 yrs.)
Skill: Static Leg Exercise
Drill: Intermediate squat holds
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor

Description: The students will build their leg strength by holding their body in a squat position while their arms are behind their back, and fingers pointed towards the ground.

Steps:

  • Have your students stand with their feet shoulder-width apart, and arms behind their back with their fingers pointed towards the ground. 
  • Explain the rules:
    • When I say, “go” you will lower your body as far as you can, trying to touch the ground with your fingers.
    • Make sure that your back remains straight and you are not leaning forward.
    • You will hold the intermediate squat position and count to fifteen.
    • While you are counting, try not to move your body at all.
  • Continue for two turns.
  • On the second turn, try to have them lower their body even further.


Program: Core SKILLZ (7 to 9 yrs.)
Skill: Static Abs Exercise
Drill: Intermediate dish holds
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor

Description: The students will build abdominal strength by raising their shoulders and feet off the ground.

Steps:

  • Have your students lay on their backs with their arms to their sides.
  • Explain the rules:
    • When I say, “go” you will raise your shoulders and feet slightly off the ground.
    • Try to keep your feet together and try not to bend your knees.
    • You will hold the intermediate dish position and count to fifteen.
    • While you are counting, try not to move your body at all.
  • Continue for two turns.
  • On the second turn, try to have them raise their shoulders and feet a little higher, but not passed a 45-degree angle.  


Program: Core SKILLZ (7 to 9 yrs.)
Skill: Static Core Exercise
Drill: Intermediate bridge holds
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor

Description: The students will build their core strength by holding their body off the ground using their palms and one foot.

Steps:

  • Have your students sit with their palms on the ground at their side (fingers pointed forward); and their knees up with their feet flat on the floor (toes pointed forward).
  • Explain the rules:
    • When I say, “go” you will raise your body off the ground with the palms of your hands and your feet, as if you were a table; and then extend one leg up with your toes pointed.
    • Try to keep your body and your extended leg parallel to the ground.
    • You will hold the intermediate dish position and count to fifteen.
    • While you are counting, try not to move your body at all.
  • Continue for two turns; one turn with each leg extended.
  • On the second turn, walk around and push on their bellies as they provided resistance.
